Collegiate School seeks a Head Upper School Librarian for the Sharp Academic Commons, which includes the Saunders Family Library. The Saunders Family Library includes a makerspace, recording studio, and international classroom equipped with videoconferencing technologies. The Academic Commons plays an important role in the academic and cultural life of the School and is committed to providing quality resources, services and support to the students and faculty in the Upper School. This is a full-time, benefited faculty position.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Effective leadership and supervision of the Academic Commons and Library;
  • Thoughtful planning and goal setting to maintain the alignment of the Commons with the Upper School’s academic program and the School’s mission;
  • Promoting the library as a platform for community innovation and experiential learning;
  • Management of departmental staffing and scheduling, department budget, maintenance of collections/database subscriptions, circulation, cataloging, and other departmental policies and procedures;
  • Fostering an environment that is conducive to reading, studying, researching, and collaborating;
  • Supporting students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information;
  • Coordinating with faculty in the acquisition of resources in support of the curriculum and supplemental materials for the enrichment of the intellectual life of the school;
  • Collaborating and team-teaching to support the school’s curriculum, and teaching information literacy and research classes to Upper School students;
  • Working closely with the school’s instructional technology team;
  • Collaborating with the Lower and Middle School Librarians to design the JK-12 library curriculum;
  • Serving on the Upper School Department Chairs group;
  • Advising 10-12 students in the Upper School.

The ideal candidate will have an ALA accredited Master’s Degree in Library or Information Sciences and at least five years experience as a professional librarian.
