Emory & Henry College invites applications for the position of Director of the Library. Emory & Henry, located in Emory in the Highlands of Southwest Virginia, was founded in 1836 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The college has recently opened a graduate Health Sciences campus in Marion, Va.

Reporting to the Provost, the Director of the Library leads the Kelly Library in supporting the informational and scholarly needs of a national liberal arts college and school of health sciences and articulating a strategic vision for the future of the library. Facilitating the transformation of the Library into a student-centered 21st century academic hub, the Director of the Library integrates diverse resources and technologies, collaborates with college constituents, and cultivates a vibrant teaching and learning community.

The Director of the Library promotes the library’s mission of providing information access, instruction in the discovery, evaluation, use, creation, and management of information, and facilitating independent study and collaborative learning.

This position oversees the Technical and Public Services operations including cataloging, collection development, electronic resources, assessment, and provides reference and information literacy instruction.  Ongoing development of digital and informatics resources is anticipated.

The Director has oversight of the library budget.

The Director reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, represents the library on faculty committees, and attends faculty and staff meetings.

The Director represents the library in its consortial commitments to Holston Associated Libraries, Appalachian College Association, Mid-Atlantic Library Association, and Virtual Library of Virginia/VICULA.

Required is an MLS / MLIS (or equivalent) degree from an ALA-accredited institution and 5 years progressive experience in academic library administration.  Also required are proven leadership and collaborative skills and experience establishing priorities.

The successful candidate will have the ability to collaborate effectively with college departments with strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Familiarity with Sierra/III ILS system and knowledge of national cataloging standards is preferred.
