DESCRIPTION:
Provides professional library services involving planning and supervision of the Information Staff
and Services section of the library. Reports to the Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff
2. Provides general to difficult reference/ information questions in person, by telephone and by email. Uses library catalog reference books, internet, and various library and subscription databases to find information; maintains reference transactions, statistical sheet, and prepares various reports.
3. Instructs patrons with computers, computer lab, electronic equipment and other technology.
4. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures
5. Responds to complaints and questions related to Information Services or other library operations
6. Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review, modify data or search for customer inquires
7. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, special programs, statistical reports, spreadsheets, or other documents
8. Compiles and/or monitors various administrative and/or statistical data pertaining to Information Services
9. Prepares budget for department for Director.
10. Conducts output measures established by Public Library Association
11. Represents the Library in contacts with various community groups and organization
12. Represents the Library at events hosted by County Agencies or groups to promote library services, programs and resources.
13. Prepares visual presentations and displays to promote library programs, event and services.
14. Plans and implements programs for all ages.
15. Provides outreach to local high schools and agencies as applicable
16. Maintains Reference and Adult Services Collection, including e-resources
17. Develops implements, maintains, evaluates, and executes a public relations plan that includes programing, and advertising for the adult services department.
18. Responsible for setting up meeting room for programs, meetings, etc.

  • Ability to apply principles of persuasion and/or influence over others
  • Ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information
  • Ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving evaluation of information

Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Must possess a Master's degree from an ALA accredited school; 3 -5 years of previous adult services experiences and supervisory experience. Supplemented with experience in library operations, program coordination, and working with adults; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Special Requirements
Must obtain satisfactory results of a criminal history background check.
Ability to obtain a Professional Library Certificate issued by the Virginia Public Librarian
Certification Commission.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Working Conditions
Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing kik stools, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (20 - 30 pounds). May involve long periods of standing and carrying books, and requires the ability to push and pull a fully loaded cart of books to a designated location which may weigh up to 300 pounds. Assignment may require a rotating schedule which may include working evenings and weekends.
