SALARY:  $49,553 annually plus a benefits package equivalent to 52% of salary.

DESCRIPTION:  The Chesapeake Public Library (CPL) is seeking an enthusiastic full-time Youth & Family Services Librarian II for our Greenbrier Library.   

Chesapeake Public Library has a well-established history of providing Youth and Family services. We are looking for someone to help us deliver new and innovative programming and events while providing exemplary customer service to support the mission of the Youth and Family services department.

Responsibilities include creating and providing literacy and STEM/STEAM programming in alignment with Every Child Ready to Read principles; assisting and instructing customers in finding print and electronic materials; providing homework, research support and computer assistance; delivering high quality programming to schools and community locations; promoting CPL services and programs using approved social media; participating in CPL system-wide committees.

May assist in other public service areas when needed.

The weekly schedule is varied and includes day, evening and weekend hours.

The selected candidate may be transferred to or work at another area library, if and when a need arises.

EDUCATION: Requires American Library Association accredited Master' degree in Library Science.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Virginia Public Librarian Certificate required within three months of employment.   Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two (2) years of related, full-time equivalent experience, including some supervisory experience. Public library experience preferred with other library experience considered.
