The Radford Public Library is seeking a Youth Services Librarian. The essential function is to organize, plan, emphasize and conduct library services for youth including children and teens. This position is directly responsible for story times, the Summer/Winter Reading Programs, outreach programs. Supervision is exercised over all library personnel in the absence of the Library Director. Acts as liaison between schools, community organizations, and local groups. Prepares and presents youth programs, plans, prepares, and tracks budget expenditures for supporting Lamplighters donations, invests in creativity, initiative and prioritization in moving the library forward in serving the community. Exercises and develops technology skills and cataloging skills, oversees children and teenagers in the library, staffs the children's and teen's desks, trains, supervises and evaluates performance of subordinates and volunteers. Helps manage the public library by managing projects and coordinating work with the Library Director. Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of modern library operation; thorough knowledge of library reference and youth programs and services; ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, associates and the general public. Graduation from an accredited ALA library school and some public library experience.
