Union Presbyterian Seminary (UPSem) invites applications for the full-time staff position of Instructional Services Librarian to serve on our Richmond, Virginia campus beginning August 7, 2017.
PURPOSE: Leads, supports and enhances the Library's instructional outreach, curricular integration.


  • Provides leadership and support for library initiatives to integrate learning resources, digital tools and information literacy into the Seminary curriculum and the wider church
  • Oversees the library's Richmond-based Instructional Resource Center and its Digital Learning Lab, including:
    • Acquisition and weeding of digital and print materials
    • Hiring, training and supervision of student staff
    • Development of IRC-related policies
    • Development and monitoring of yearly budget
  • Planning for current and future needs Provides reference services related to curriculum resources, media resources and digital tools
  • Provides library-based education and support for faculty seeking to enhance online teaching
  • Plans and teaches course sessions as requested by faculty
  • Oversees the IRC portion of the Library website
  • Pursues professional development opportunities related to library instruction, instructional technology and Christian Education
  • Monitors licensing/copyright issues related to the acquisition and use of information resources
  • Supports Library projects related to digitization, media resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • ALA-accredited graduate degree in Library Science required; background and training in Christian Education or general Education preferred
  • Professional experience in a library or similar environment with responsibilities encompassing reference and instruction
  • Knowledge of current and emerging instructional technologies, information literacy concepts and standards
  • Experience planning and leading instructional sessions for a variety of audiences, in person and online
  • Familiarity with curriculum resources and other instructional media from a variety of sources
  • Organizational and supervisory skills (budgeting, goal setting, hiring and training, etc.)
  • Written and oral communication skills that enable effective contact with diverse internal and external audiences
  • Excellent working knowledge of Windows, MS Office Suite, Blackboard
