2017 VLACRL Spring Program: Diversity in Our Libraries

Where: Darden Graduate School of Business at University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA
Please join us for the VLACRL Spring Program, Diversity in our Libraries! Our keynote speaker is Jon Cawthorne, Dean of West Virginia University Libraries and chair of the ALA Diversity Alliance. Panelists will include Diversity Alliance residents from Virginia Tech and West Virginia University.
In addition to our keynote, the day will include idea-provoking round table discussions on topics including user experience, library programming, library instruction, collections and more. The second part of the day will include a panel discussion, What Diversity Means to Different Library Departments and why it Matters, led by officers of the VLA Diversity & Inclusion Forum. We will close the program with a tour of Camp Library at the Darden School of Business.
Registration is $35 for VLA and ACRL members and $55 for non-members. Registration includes parking, light morning refreshments, and lunch at Darden's Abbott Center Dining Room. Please register by March 1, 2017.
Additional details will be sent to registrants including directions, parking information, and a detailed schedule for the day by March 8, 2017.
Jon E. Cawthorne, Ph.D. is Dean of Libraries at West Virginia University. During his tenure at WVU, the Libraries have been accepted into the Greater Western Library Alliance, implemented a Diversity Alliance/Residency Program in cooperation with the University of Iowa, American University, and Virginia Tech, which has since broadened to a national alliance, joined HathiTrust, and created a successful Arts in the Libraries program, which has hosted three exhibitions since September, 2015. Dean Cawthorne has published articles on diversity, research libraries, shared leadership, and the importance of outreach.
