Longwood University is an institution of higher learning dedicated to the development citizen leaders who are prepared to make positive contributions to the common good of society.  In support of this mission, we invite qualified applicants to apply for the position of Acquisitions Specialist/Library Specialist I in the Greenwood Library.  This person fulfills duties of the acquisitions department, which orders and receives books and non-print materials requested by faculty, administrators, students, and library staff while maintaining all necessary procedures and records to support these transactions. This position is required to work days, nights, and weekends.  

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Administer and coordinate the Library’s Acquisitions process for books, audiovisuals, e-books and other formats
  • Manages standing order contracts and ensures invoices are processed after receipt
  • Maintains the Library’s leased collection and the curriculum collection
  • Coordinates the gift process and evaluates damaged materials
  • Produces reports, records, and statistics on acquisitions
  • Participates in the service rotation for the Desk, including weekends and evenings

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred and/or several years of equivalent library experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
  • Library work experience in a public setting preferred
  • Working knowledge of library principles, practices, and terminology
  • Working knowledge of procedures and standards for the processing and/or maintenance of library materials
  • Work experience with Windows based applications required
  • Work experience with Mac based applications preferred
  • eVA working knowledge preferred
  • Knowledge of business and mathematical processes to reconcile financial and statistical data
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service work experience
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs., unassisted
  • Ability to push and pull book trucks
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time
