General Description:  
The Halifax County – South Boston Public Library System is seeking a team-oriented Branch Manager who will play a role in implementing the library’s recently updated five year plan.  The mission of our library is to provide services, resources, and programs that will enhance the quality of life for all the members of our community and to do so in an efficient manner.

The individual chosen for this position will be responsible for the daily management and supervision of the South Boston Public Library, one of two libraries that make up the Halifax County-South Boston Public Library System.  

Halifax County:  
Halifax County is situated along the Virginia/North Carolina border and has a population of 36,241.  The two largest towns in the county are South Boston and Halifax.  The county is a short driving distance from the Virginia cities of Danville and Lynchburg, and the North Carolina cities of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill.

Requirements/Preferences:

  • A master’s degree in library science from a graduate program currently accredited by the American Library Association.
  • At least one year of experience as a professional librarian is preferred.
  • Current knowledge of the best practices, procedures, and resources relating to public libraries.
  • Familiarity with integrated library systems and library-related technologies.
  • Strong customer service and leadership skills.
  • The ability to establish and maintain a strong working relationship with all coworkers.
  • A team-oriented approach to work.
  • A good sense of humor.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • The chosen candidate must obtain certification as a professional librarian from the Library of Virginia within one year of the date of hire.

Salary & Benefits:  
The starting salary range is $32,000-$36,000, depending upon experience and qualifications and will be set by the Library Board of Trustees in negotiation with the chosen candidate.
