FREE Job Search Workshop on Saturday November 12th at Alexandria Public Library

The Virginia Library Association is sponsoring a FREE Job Search Workshop on Saturday November 12th at Alexandria Public Library

Speakers with experience in Academic, Public and Federal libraries will offer tips for the entire job search process, from cover letters to interview skills. Reviewers will also be on hand to provide feedback on resumes and cover letters.

Our speakers will include:

Renee DiPilato is the Deputy Director for the Alexandria Library.  In addition to her MLS, Renee holds an MPA from George Mason University and a Ph.D. in Managerial Leadership from Simmons College.  She is an active member of professional organizations and has served on several ALA and PLA committees, including the Membership and Leadership Development Committees.  She was selected for ALA’s Emerging Leaders program in 2008 and completed the PLA Leadership Academy in 2013.

Richard Huffine is currently a librarian with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He has worked in the Federal government for over 15 years, including roles as Director, National Coordinator, Internet Librarian, and Web Analytics Manager. He is a third-generation library worker and has his MLIS from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.

Nikhat Ghouse is an Associate Librarian at American University (AU) where she supports the social sciences in the College of Arts & Sciences and the School of Professional & Extended Studies. She has worked in academic libraries for over 16 years at large universities and small colleges. Over the years, Nikhat has reviewed hundreds of resumes, curriculum vitae, and has served or chaired a number of search committees. Nikhat holds BA in History from Cleveland State University, an MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh, and she recently completed her MS in Organization Development from AU.

Andrew Sulavik received his MLIS from the University of Tennessee and has been the head of the Metadata and Description Resources Services at Howard University for the past six years.  He is currently principal investigator of an IMLS National Leadership Grant for Libraries entitled “Portal to the Black Experience,” and is co-chair of ALA’s ALCTS CaMMS Catalog Management Interest Group. He has a forthcoming article in the 2017 Spring issue of the Reference & User Services Quarterly.

The workshop will be from 10-1:30pm.

A tentative schedule is below:
10-10:15am – welcome/registration
10:15-11:30am – Q&A session with all speakers
11:40-12:20am – small groups conversations with individual speakers
12:30-1:30pm – resume reviews
