What is the difference between XML and HTML?

Why should librarians care about XML?

Top 19 reasons to attend the 2011 VLA Annual Conference…can you suggest a 20th?

19) The buzz you get from the sheer collective brainpower of the biggest gathering of Virginia librarians this year

18) Staying over in the hotel? Taking an elevator ride to work is like magic!

17) The latest in library swag just sitting there for the taking, waiting to fill your complementary conference book bag.

16) Doumar’s of Norfolk, featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the Food Network, is just a few miles from the hotel.

15) Looking for a job? Come network!

14) An evening with your boss, a DJ, Karaoke, and a cash bar. Just add your camera phone, and I smell promotion!!

13) Thursday October 27 is Navy Day – where better to be than Hampton Roads?

12) Masala! VLA’s academic, public, school, law, special and government librarians, with the Virginia Association of Law Librarians, vendors and speakers – it’s a spicy mix.

11) The Flaming Lips in Norfolk Thursday; STS9 in Nofolk Friday; Davy Jones & Herman’s Hermits in Newport News Saturday – Hampton Roads has music from the 70’s, 90’s and now.

10) The Norfolk Naval Shipyard is, despite its name, located entirely within the city of Portsmouth. You could also be located entirely within the city of Portsmouth.

9) Portsmouth is the hometown of Ruth Brown, Wanda Sykes, and Missy Elliot. Ladies with something to say welcome!

8) Virginia Beach is just a few miles away. Stay the weekend!

7) New this year: a Student registration rate!

6) VLA Scholarship Basket Raffle – the biggest baddest basket raffle this side of the Potomac

5) Honor those who honor us with their advocacy – the winners of the George Mason Award, VLA Trustee Award, and VLA Friends of the Library Award

4) Spark your memory and imagination with the lunch talk from the winner of the prestigious Jefferson Cup Award for history writing for youth

3) OMG! TXT MSG 2 VLA! U B HERE!

2) Hey, anything to get out of the library…uh, I mean, anything you can do to increase your knowledge and skill sets when it comes to the latest trends in library science and serving your beloved patrons!

1) Outstanding speakers and break-out sessions; brilliant insights into the latest trends in the industry; beautiful host hotel on the historic waterfront; awesome food and entertainment options; fabulous opportunities to meet with friends and peers; all this and more at an affordable rate!

Visit http://www.vla.org/?page_id=3950 for more info!
