Susan C. Thorniley Receives VLA Presidential Citation

At the April 9, 2010 VLA Council Meeting, Susan C. Thorniley was presented with the VLA Presidential Citation. The Citation read: “In recognition of her years of leadership in building bridges between school and public libraries in the Commonwealth of Virginia and her long and dedicated service as Coordinator for Library and Information Services with the Fairfax County Public School System, member of the Fairfax County Public Library Board of Trustees, the Fairfax Library Foundation and the Virginia Library Association Legislative Committee this VLA Presidential Citation is issued to Susan C. Thorniley.”

 

Gene Damon Receives VLA Presidential Citation

At the January 29, 2010 VLA Council Meeting, Gene Damon recieved the VLA Presidential Citation. The Citation read: “In recognition of his 36 years of commitment to libraries and library service and his exemplary service since 1996 as director of library automation and learning resources for the Virginia Community College System, where he has developed a vast array of information resources enabling students and staff throughout the Community College System to easily access and exchange information, this VLA Presidential Citation is issued to Gene Damon.”

 

Elizabeth M. Lewis Receives 1st VLA Presidential Citation

At the 2009 Annual Virginia Library Association Conference, VLA President John A. Moorman instituted the bestowing of a VLA Presidential Citation. The first Citation read: “In recognition of her 35 years of caring and exemplary service to Virginia Librarians, Libraries and their user communities through her service with the Library Development and Networking Division of the Library of Virginia, Virginia Department of Corrections, Virginia Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, Richmond Public Library and Richmond City Jail Library this VLA Presidential Citation is issued to Elizabeth M. Lewis.”

 

Senator Thomas K. Norment Jr. Receives VLA Presidential Citation

At the Friday, June 8, 2012 meeting of the VLA Council, Senator Thomas K. Norment, Jr. received a Presidential Citation from President Connie Gilman. The citation read: “In his role as chair of the Senate Finance Committee’s Subcommittee on Education and as Senate Majority Leader, Senator Thomas K. Norment, Jr. was instrumental in passing amendments to Governor McDonnell’s FY13 and FY14 proposed budgets that restored the proposed 2% cut in State Aid to Public Libraries and secured additional funding for the Library of Virginia to address its mandated requirements for electronic records handling. The Virginia Library Association deeply appreciates your leadership on these important library issues. This Virginia Library Association Presidential Citation is hereby presented to Senator Thomas K. Norment, Jr.”

Bette Dillehay Receives VLA Presidential Citation

At the Friday, April 20, 2012 meeting of the VLA Council, Bette Dillehay (Director of Mathews Library) received a Presidential Citation from President Connie Gilman. The citation read: “In recognition of her many years of service as past Chair, co-chair, and member of the Virginia Library Association Legislative Committee, and for her efforts in organizing, developing and presenting numerous Legislative Agendas on behalf of this organization and all libraries in the Commonwealth of Virginia, this Virginia Library Association Presidential Citation is issued to Bette Dillehay.”
