Description
In an applied, exercise-based context, the Metadata and Digital
Library Development course introduces practicing catalogers to
metadata implementation considerations and processes in a digital
library development context. Course materials explore the following
topics:
• The uses of the digital library
• Digital consideration for current collections: selection and
collection building
• Metadata considerations: access, storage, preservation and rights
management
• Standards issues: metadata and content standards
• Preservation and archiving
• Internet and Web technology
• Planning the digital project

Additional Information
This workshop is part of the “Cataloging for the 21st Century”
continuing education series, which offers practicing catalogers
instruction in bibliographic control practices that will help them
continue to play a significant role in shaping library services in the
emerging digital information environment.

Registration

Registration is limited to 30 people.  The registration fee is $85 for
PTPL members and $100 for non-members.  To register, fill out the form
below.  Mail the registration form and a check made payable to PTPL to
Linda Wirth: 5250 Signal Hill Dr., Burke, VA  22015.  All registration
fees and forms must be received by May 3, 2010.

Breakfast pastries and coffee will be provided and are included in the
registration fee.  Lunch is not included in the registration fee, but,
a number of options are available on campus (http://tinyurl.com/
ycx4eeq).  Attendees will not be charged for the cost of training
materials, which PTPL will underwrite.
