Have you ever thought about getting a Masters Degree in Library Science without having to fight your way through Northern Virginia traffic to drive to classes? Come and talk to a representative from the University of South Carolina’s distance learning program and find out how you can learn and earn a degree without leaving the comfort of your PC!

Virginia Wallace, Ed.D., instructor in the University of South Carolina School of Library and Information Science and facilitator of this cohort will describe the online Masters Cohort being offered in the fall of 2007 to Virginia residents. The online program is designed as a four-year course of study (although some may choose to accelerate and finish earlier), and the courses will be offered via blended technologies. The tuition will be at the in-state rate because there is not an ALA-approved Masters program in Virginia. Most online programs require semester onsites; but for the Virginia cohort the onsites will be held in Virginia rather than South Carolina, and there will only be 3-4 of these mandatory onsites over the course of the masters program. Dr. Wallace maintains a blog at www.slismasters.blogspot.com; and the website for the School of Library and Information Science is www.libsci.sc.edu (check out “For Future Students”).
Sam Clay and Bobbi Longworth will also present information about the assistance that FCPL and the Library Foundation can give you, ranging from educational leave benefits, reimbursement of some of your tuition costs, and scholarship money.
Oh, and there will be refreshments!
Registration is not required, but you can register at the librarytrainingregistration@fairfaxcounty.gov mailbox to help us have an idea of the attendance. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like any more information.
