Two major nonprofit library groups — the OCLC Online Computer Library Center and the Research Libraries Group — plan to merge this summer.

The Research Libraries Group, which is known as RLG, represents 150 academic libraries, museums, and other cultural organizations and has about 80 employees. OCLC provides services to some 54,000 libraries in 109 countries and has more than 1,200 employees worldwide.”With all the things we need to do as a community, it really just makes a lot of sense for us to come together and synchronize and better leverage products and services,” Cathy De Rosa, OCLC’s vice president for marketing and library services, said in an interview on Wednesday.
